Ray Bradbury Challenge, Week 2

9 Jan

Week 2.

I’m deep into the new story which I started writing today.
I’m about 2 hours in and it’s getting fairly heavy. 2444 words!

It came from a reddit prompt and is turning out to be a bit of a difficult birth so far.

I won’t be surprised if it goes over 3 thousand words.
At least I have 6 more days to finish it.

Well, I am done on it today. It’s been a long one.
Back to the coal face tomorrow I guess.

reddit NO MORE!

12 Dec

I have officially removed all my ebook links from reddit after reading the newly mooted user agreement.
They can officially go and screw themselves.
My content is MINE.
I wrote it. It’s MY copyright.
Not yours because you think you might be able to make a buck out of it.

If anyone is going to make money out of me, it’s damn well going to be ME.

If you are a writer and have ANY books currently being advertised through reddit I strongly urge you to delete/remove those posts before January. All mine are gone as of today. I removed them. My choice.

And that’s about it for this month!

Patient Review

My last free Doctor Who ebook for this month!
If you like it, why not Tweet me @RayDaleyWriter

Please be aware, next months (December) release will NOT be on the 1st of the month.
It will probably go out on the 6th.
There will be only ONE release next month.
This month was special, being the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary AND Armistice Day.

I will almost certainly NOT be doing this kind of weekly release again.

People who say “please judge my work” then get annoyed when you do

4 Oct

I’m on reddit.
I read stories and stuff now and then on there.

The main thing that puts me off reading a persons work is that they haven’t formatted it. It’s just one big massive block of text. No paragraphs or line spacing. And if they HAVE done paragraphs, they haven’t put any line spaces between them, making it very tough to read.

If you want to be a writer, have pride in how your work looks.
In cooking they say the first bite is with the eye.
Reading someones writing is exactly the same.

Please care how your writing looks. Or no-one else will.

Learning a bit of formatting isn’t hard.
Neither is proof-reading.
Or Spell-checking.

Which a lot of reddit writers don’t do because they write their stories on the sites they post them on.
Bad habit to have, get out of it.
Have some pride in your writing.

It might BE shit, it doesn’t have to LOOK like it too!

Astronaut Zombie, An idea inspired by reddit

21 Aug

Astronaut Zombie.

Shot of “Astronaut” doing spacewalk on moon.
Another known Astronaut sees him & tries to hail him on the radio, no response.
He tries again to no avail.

He makes his way over to the other “Astronaut” who has been walking away from him the whole time.
The Astronaut makes a few small jumps and lands just behind the “Astronaut” who he taps on the shoulder.

The “Astronaut” slowly turns around. His helmet shield is not raised.
It’s fully open. Open to space.
And the “Astronaut” is clearly not a living human being.
He is a desicated husk. A zombie.
Who starts to bite and grab at the Astronaut.

(Sometimes you just can’t turn your inner writer off)
