A quick catch-up & apology

28 Jan

SORRY!

I’ve been doing the January Submision Challenge and it has been taking up most of my time. Not just the actual submission part of the event, but having to find new markets on the fly, picking extra stories and geting them ready then putting them out.

A few of my markets closed early, one  web domain expired (Hopefully that’ll get sorted soon) but there were a few days where I had to scramble to pick new markets then choose stories appropriate to their wants & guidelines.

I’m not going to reveal any stats info in this post, obviously, I want you to read my “So This Was January 2020…” and “Summing Up The January Submission Challenge” posts, which may end up both being the same thing.

I haven’t completed any new stories yet this year. It doesn’t mean I’m not going to, but my focus is more based on submissions again, like last year.

There’s plenty going on. Stick around to find out what that is.

I’ll be posting again Feb 1st, catch up with you then.

I got 1 new ISFDB credit this year:- How Have The Mighty Fallen? (2019)

My total of new stories written this year was 51.

My 2019 writing stats:-
Stories completed=51
Longest story=5666 words
Shortest story=100 words
Camp Nano April ’19=8 stories; 14,969
Camp Nano July ’19=20 stories; 42,166 words
NanoWriMo ’19= Did not officially take part. 5 stories. 9,745 words.

Total words written=116,690.

Summing Up:- I made some money, had some stories published, hit a bad patch and didn’t really recover in terms of creative output.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS:-

I’m ready for the Submission Challenge. I’ve got 31 stories all ready to go out with spares for markets I’ll be bombarding as often as possible. There are still stories out which I’m waiting to hear about.

To surpass 2019’s stats, I’ll probably have to give a few things away for free. I’m not sure if I’m going to write anything new at all.

I realised quite quickly this wasn’t going to be a good writing year and moved my focus to submissions. I feel I’ve been on top of this fairly well, the submission challenge helped pull my  numbers up.

GOALS FOR 2020:- Sell at least 1 reprint, make a pro sale.
While these are both possible, the probabilty isn’t great. I’ll just try as hard as I can.
